Chyron newbie here who's a much better shooter/editor than graphic artist. That said here's an easy one...I'm wondering what is the easiest way to continually rotate a logo on the Y axis without seeing the backside of the logo?

thanks,
wayne

This isn't particularly a Lyric issue, the rotating logo gets done WAY before it gets into the Duet.

I've created 3-D logos in after effects. You can create them in true 3-D programs, as well, but I typically use the Zaxwerks 3-D plug (it's GREAT!). Then you have to do some magic in the after effects timeline... You have to match the logo when it is completely on it's side (90 deg. rotated) and do a "soft cut" (a 2 frame dissolve) to the logo front spinning again. It take s a little tweaking, but you can do it!

It is also easier to render out an uncomressed movie of the entire logo and replicating that for your match edits than replicating the Zaxwerks plugin...it can take a while to render, depending on the speed of your Mac and how much memory you have and how complex the logo is.

Hope this helps.

Yes, you need to create a 3D logo for that effect. You cannot rotate a 2D object without seeing the blank back..it's a 2 Dimensional ojbect...you only see width and height, not depth.

If you've only got a 2D logo, you can 'fake' Lyric into making it look like it's only showing the front.

Create a blank message that is 1 second in length. Import your 2D graphic into Lyric. Give the first keyframe 90 degrees of Y rotation. Move your cursor to the 1 second mark. Give it -90 degrees of Y rotation at that point. Loop your message with a start frame of frame zero and an end frame of 29 frames (so that there's not a duplicate frame each time it loops). Select 'infinite' if you want it to go on forever.

Now you've got a spinning logo. It's still a 2D logo, but you won't ever see the backside of the graphic.

Hope this helps...

Thanks all for the tips. The "faking" of the 2D logo in Lyric is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to all for the help- it's all great stuff.

One more question on the rotating 2-D logo. It rotates great, but when I move it anywhere on the canvas other than the default placement in the center of canvas the rotation on the Y-axis doesn't work as expected- it looks almost skewed, and rotates differently. I know this is a terrible explanation, but hope it makes sense. Thanks again for the help.

Change your camera projection to 'Orthographic'.

Also, in the next version of Lyric, you will have the option of rendering (drawing) the backface of 2D & 3D graphics, so that will eliminate the need to "trick" the program :P
