Running Lyric 5.22...

I am trying to create a starting lineup graphic animation. Very much like ESPN, we would like to fly in a graphic with the text element already "on it." Using the XYZ tab I have an idea of what I would like to see happen with the graphic element but when I go to animate the text using a similar method it rotates the text within the world of the text box, not the textbox within the world of the canvas.

I've tried using various center options and the relative to position checkbox but to no avail. I don't think I understand exactly what modifing these options accomplishes, so that may be a part of my problem.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I can accomplish my desired effect?

Try rt-clicking on the text box in the scene graph and make sure you're using scene camera.

Also, you can group the text with any associated graphic elements so that they all move together.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't tried your first option, although I think it is set like that by default. As for the second one, that is what I am doing, but since one element is a graphic and one is a text box, they dont move together when I rotate them on the y axis.

It works fine when the text box is the same size as the graphic behind it (just a bar for a background for the text) AND it is in the exact center of the canvas. But as soon as I start to move the two to the left or the right for that matter the graphic starts to skew quicker than the text.

Did you try actually GROUPING the objects, then animating them, because it should use the relative center of the group rather than of individual objects. To group them, select both elements in the Scene Graph and hit the GROUP button on the tool bar (3 yellow boxes) or hit CNTL + G. Do this before you animate.

This was actually the problem.

As for grouping them, for some reason, the text animates within the world of the text box, not the canvas. That is unless you use the method above. That seems to solve all problems.

2D Text windows are by default in 2 dimensional space. The Lyric canvas is three dimensional space. This is why the text windows don't spin in 3D space as you'd expect unless you move them into 3D space by forcing them to use the same camera as the 3D space (Use Scene Camera).
