(Posted this over on the LEX board, i'll try here too.)

Hi. I'm having the same problem some others are having, in that I need to convert some 32-bit quicktimes movies to .avi while preserving the alpha channel. I ultimately hope to play the .avi off the canvas and key them over video. It's not a loop or anything, just a quick lower third that animates in and out.

I have a new PC with windows vista and after effects CS3. I thought I could just load the .mov files into AE and render them out as an .avi with the "video for windows" codec i've read about, but I don't seem to have that codec!

So it seems i need to find some kind of codec for PC that will work well with the Chyron. We're running a LEX duet SD with lyric 5.25.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

well, upon browsing these forums, it seems uncompressed is the only avi that will work. i've been using that, and it works, although a bit choppy.

Hi Boxloy-

Just as an FYI, Lyric has supported 32 bit Quicktime movie objects for a while now (I'm thinking version 5.2x and later.) You can use uncompressed Quicktime files, or if the playout machine is reasonably powerful, i.e. HyperX2 or LEX2, you can use the animation codec.

As always, performance is dependent on the amount of screen coverage of the movie object. If it's a lower third banner, make sure that the source file only extends out to the boundaries of the images, since clear pixels hit the performance just as hard as colored ones. Feel free to call me if you need details- I'm at 631-845-2030.

Edit: You will need to install Quicktime on the system!
