I have saved a few messages while working in iSQ version of Lyric and would to open them in Compose version of Lyric, but when I do, I get an "Unexpected file format" error and can't open the message. Before upgrading to version 6.5 I was able to do this with no problem.

Any ideas?

Is the iSQ version of Lyric the exact same version? Also what version of iSQ and Lyric are you using?

They're the same version (6.5 RU3 Build 1259). We used to be able to save stuff in the iSQ version and open them in compose. It comes in handy when we have to save stuff during the show (meaning we are running iSQ). The main issue is that we may build something (or possibly fix something in a message), then later we need to load it up into Camio. Since you can't upload messages saved in the iSQ version, the quick fix was just to open it in compose and resave it. One of our operators recently fixed some things in a message while in the show and saved it in the iSQ version, but we need that message uploaded into Camio, so that template will be fixed, but we can't. And we really don't want to go back and rebuild it :)

Edit: BTW, messages that we had saved in an earlier iSQ version will still open in compose. We tested it since our operator had some messages he had made on the fly, when we were using the older version, that he still uses.

OK, we figure out the problem. I was wrong in assuming we were running both versions as 6.5. We were supposed to be, but someone had the shortcut on the desktop pointed to an older version (6.12 I believe). But here's some interesting things we found out in doing some testing (before we figured out the shortcut was wrong):

One of the shows we do doesn't use iSQ, but they usually end up getting built in the iSQ version because one of our operators usually builds the messages during downtime during our morning show and cut-ins (i.e. commercial breaks/weather hits). Those seemed to open up fine in the compose version, except for one instance. We have one message that will open up in compose and even play out, but the playlist we use will skip over it if we hit "Play". It will call to the canvas using "Take", but will not play out from the playlist. We never could figure out why. But it works fine while using 6.5.

In trying to figure out why those messages open up, but not others, we realized that they were all saved using actual names (i.e. RACE1.lyr, RACE2.lyr) whereas the other messages were saved out as number (i.e. 00000781.lyr). Of course, you can't save a message out in iSQ by just typing in the numbers and hitting record. We manually save them by going to File->Save As..., then type in the full file name (including the leading zeros). I opened a file that we knew wouldn't open in compose (781) and saved it out under a real name (SNOW TRACKER.LYR) and it opened up fine.

I would understand something being created in a newer version not opening up in the older version, but it's weird that it's only because of how it's named.
