Here is the 411 on the infamous “LIVE MODE” button…

From a product management / development / engineering perspective, the “LIVE MODE” was conceived as a tool to empower a designer or an operator with real-time visual representation of content from the VGA canvas OUTPUT directly onto a selected frame buffer. The envisioned primary function was to facilitate the “ALIGNING” of Lyric nodes (objects found in a Lyric scene) with object outside of the Lyric environment…

Example: you need to create a continuous crawl (ticker) which aligns perfectly with the station bug… in this case, with Lyric in “LIVE MODE” I am able to make adjustments to the Lyric Ticker nodes and instantly see the changes on my output frame buffer.

Unfortunately, many operators have interpreted this “LIVE MODE” to be a operational function, since it permits one to quickly bypass and synchronize the content from the Lyric VGA canvas to an OUTPUT frame buffer (ie. Video wall monitor).

This functionality was never developed for use as a “preview frame buffer” and will eventually fail when used over a prolonged period of time or with the constant read/play repetitious requirements of a broadcast.

In order to accommodate for “PREVIEW” needs, Chyron recommends two different solutions on a HyperX² platform with Lyric PRO 7.0

The first is the CLONE CANVAS method (available in both 6.5 and 7.0), which replicates the content of the selected VGA canvas and pushes it through to the nVidia S-VIDEO output… (please refer to page 8 of attached document)

The second method is referred to as PROGRAM/PREVIEW mode (only available in 7.0 and requires a dual channel system)

The Program Preview feature duplicates the currently active Frame Buffer's content onto another Frame Buffer in your system, making for an Air/production-quality Preview monitor signal. This capability differs from Lyric's Clone Canvas Window option, which displays only the system video card's output.

I hope this helps clarify the LIVE MODE button versus the “PREVIEW” methods available in Lyric PRO 7.
