FIX: Stream Error issues on LEX2 / HyperX3 with NVIDIA GeForce 9000 series and NVIDIA GeForce 200 series cards

Symptom:

A stream error in Lyric may intermittently occur when playing a message to air if the system is idle.

Cause:

NVIDIA GeForce 9000 series and 200 series cards have multiple performance modes that are regulated by the driver and BIOS. These are meant to reserve power when the GPU is idle by lowering the clock speed of the GPU’s components. The GPU will take a short amount of time to bring the clock speed up to its performance mode, however a stream error may already have occurred due to being in a power saving mode.

Solution:

Download and run the file ChyronNvidiaTweak.exe below, or do the following:

To force maximum performance of the GPU at all times, the ChyronNvidiaTweak application modifies the registry. You must restart the computer after this change.

To modify the registry manually, you must create multiple registry values.

1) Run regedit.exe from Start->Run

2) Find the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak

3) In the Edit Menu, select New->DWORD Value as PerfLevel.

4) Select the value, and in the Edit Menu, select Modify. Ensure its value is set to 0.

5) Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video

6) This region maps devices behind a unique identifier. For each subkey {GUID}\0000, find the value DeviceDescription. If this device description matches a 9000 series GPU or a 200 series GPU proceed.

7) In the Edit Menu, select New->Binary Value as OverrideMaxPerf.

8) Select the value, and in the Edit Menu, select Modify. For a 9000 series GPU, modify its value by entering 02000000. For a 200 series GPU, modify its value by entering 03000000.

9) You must restart the computer for the change to take effect.

To undo this change, either remove the keys manually or run the ChyronNvidiaTweak application with the command line parameter ‘uninstall’.

You may also wish to install a third party GPU over-clocking utility to monitor clock speeds or resolve this separately.

Notes:

The ChyronNvidiaTweak application may give the following output information.

“Did not find a Tweakable Device” – The system does not have a NVIDIA GeForce 9000 series or 200 series video card installed, or the application did not recognize one by its Device Description.

“Failed to update registry settings” – The specific registry keys do not exist. The user may not have an NVIDIA product installed.

If these occur, contact customer support. It is useful to have an exported registry data from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet.
